The principal products & services of the GRATIS
Foundation are: Training, Support Services,
Manufacturing and Provision of Credit facilities.
TRAINING:
The
goal of the training function is to provide
technical and entrepreneurial skills to promote
self-employment. All GRATIS/RTTC have
training facilities located at GRATIS Headquarters
and the nine Regional RTTCs, which are found in
all the regional capitals except the Ashanti Region. |

Training and its
associated products is
GRATIS core business, and is mainly
classified into Engineering and Non-engineering,
which includes extension services in support of the
development of rural industries especially those
employing women in food and agro-processing. |
Non- Engineering Training
The
non-engineering training includes three programmes;
1.Textiles training programme (weaving, batik and tie and dye cloth
making) |
Engineering Training
The main aim
of the engineering training programme is to produce Technical Apprentices
who would establish and manage their own businesses.
The training is in two
categories:
1. Technical Apprenticeship training programme, which will involve the
training of Senior Secondary School (SSS) Graduates, Technical School
Graduates and Polytechnic Graduates.
2. The second category is the Professional Skills Upgrading Programme, which
also involves short-term training of Engineers and Technicians, Master
Craftsmen, Local Apprentices, Visiting Apprentices and Practical
Attachments. |
2. Rural enterprise scheme
shortcourses (Beekeeping and
Soap Making).
3. Agro Process Technology training
4. Entrepreneurial & Basic management training/gender development.
The Processing technology-training
programme is mainly involved with agro and food processing. The
non-engineering programmes are basically targeted at rural women. |

Manufacturing
In its role to develop and promote
industrialization, GRATIS uses its facilities to repair and manufacture
machinery and equipment on commercial basis to support.
Food Security
Programme
– Example of
products manufactured
to support Agro - Post Harvest processes are Cassava Graters,
Chippers and Slicers, Shea Butter Extraction Machines, Oil Clarifiers,
Citronella Oil Distillation Plants, Palm Oil Extractors, Honey Extractors,
Fruit Juice Extractors, Coconut Grater and Chippers, Improved Fish Smokers,
Tomato and Pepper Grinders, Cereal Threshers.
Environment, Health and Sanitation -
Products in this category include the
manufacture of AFRIDEV Deep Well
Hand Pumps, NIMARICA Hand Pumps,
Well digging winches, Garbage Push Trucks,
Open Waste Containers, Block Making machines, Steel well and concrete
culvert moulds, Solar cookers, Water heaters,
Domestic Industrial Gas Ovens and Stoves.
Education
– Products such as bench
shears and tool kits for schools, and Chalk
Making Machines have been
developed
and manufactured.Consumer Products
- Some products in this field include woodworking products, batik, tie and
dye and woven fabrics, dies for industrial moulding used in the aluminium,
glass and plastic utensils have been produced. Other areas where GRATIS and
the RTTCs have supported industry include the machining of gear wheels
replacement parts for various industrial equipments.
Others - certain products have been
made on requests from customers such
as the manufacturing of Soap Stampers,
Luggage Trolleys, Glass Grinders for beads
making. |
Support Services
A Consultancy Division and the
Engineering and Industrial Design
Centre undertake GRATIS Support
services. The services includes the
identification, development and
adaptation of designs and prototypes,
market research and feasibility studies
for the Micro, Small and Medium
Scale Enterprise (MSE) and the
provision of technical support
(selection, procurement, installation,
training and maintenance of
equipment) to clients of GRATIS.
